Plaque-Giving Ceremony Site
The Fifth Plaque-Giving Ceremony of Chinese Historic and Cultural Street was held in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, on June 28th. Shan Jixiang, President of China Cultural Heritage Association and Curator of the Palace Museum, attended the ceremony and gave the plaques.
The ten streets honored as Chinese Historic and Cultural Streets include Shamian Street in Guangdong, Shanxibeilu in Shanghai, Ming-Qing Ancient Street in Jiangxi, Longchuanshui Street in Anhui, Doumeng Old Street in Guangdong, Yongning Street in Fujian, Sunkou Ancient Street in Guangdong, Huangqiao Old Street in Jiangsu and Shangxiazheng Street in Sichuan.
Liu Chengxuan, Director of Selection and Recommendation Committee of the Chinese Historic and Cultural Street, attended the ceremony and said that streets in 23 provinces have applied for this honor since the selection started in December, 2012.
The selection activity has been greatly supported and guided by the Ministry of Culture of the People’s Republic of China and State Administration of Cultural Heritage. Since the first selection in 2008, 50 well-preserved historic streets have been given this honor.
It’s reported that the annual meeting of the Preservation Alliance of the Chinese Historic and Cultural Street will be held in 2014 in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, organized by Management Committee of Qingming Bridge Historic and Cultural Street.
